Mystery Quilt

Step One:

Pre cut fabric:

A: 2 1/2 strips cut across width of fabric: Dark/mediumfabric—12 strips,    Light fabric—8 strips

B: Background:  4 squares at 9 3/4 inches, 7 squares at 6 1/2 inches and 2 squares at 5 1/4 inches

 

Step Two—Instructions

1. Cut the two 5 1/4” background squares on the diagonal, making a total of four triangles.  Set aside.

2. Cut the four 9 3/4” background squares on the diagonal in both directions, making a total of sixteen triangles.  Set aside.

3. Cut all the 2 1/2” width-of-fabric strips in half so they measure 2 1/2” by 20 something.

4. From three 2 1/2” strips, sew together strip set   dark (medium) - light– dark(medium).  Make ten strip sets.  Press to the dark.  Set aside.

5. From three 2 1/2: strips, sew together strip set   light—dark(medium) - light.  Sew three strip sets.  Press to the dark.

6. From the three light-dark-light strip sets in step 5, cut sixteen (16) units 2 1/2” wide.  Discard waste.

7. From the ten dark-light-dark strip sets in step 4, cut twenty four (24) segments 6 1/2” wide. 

8. From the remains of the ten strip sets dark-light-dark, cut eight (8) units 2 1/2 wide.

9. From the 2 1/2 “ units made in steps 6 and 8, sew nine patches.  The center square will be light.  Press to center.

10. Assemble following the chart.

 

This is a great way to use up your scraps.  It also is a great size for Linus quilts.  Enjoy!
